Kamesei Ryokan

Very nice place run by Tyler. The private bath was very nice and cosy.

酒店老闆和老闆娘親切友善，服務優秀，餐食與温泉湯池都不錯，提供户倉站至酒店的免費接送服務，酒店為木結構建築，有歷史感，設施有點老舊，但足敷使用，離酒店不遠的千曲川很漂亮，特別是落日前後。

部屋がカビ臭い、隅に蜘蛛の巣が張っている、トイレと洗面所にブラックキャップがある。お風呂も汚れていてとても残念でした。 女性の方々は対応が良く接客はよかったのですが、外国人の若旦那さんは愛想もなく残念。 料理はボリュームも味も良かったと思います。 ただ、次も行きたいかと聞かれたら行かないでしょう

We are so fortunate a Japanese friend of ours suggested a visit not only to Nagano, but also specifically to Kamesei Ryokan. Most foreign travelers hit the big cities but taking time to leave the crowds and cities was magical. The train from Tokyo to Nagano and on to Togura is easy. We took a little trip out to the Snow Monkey Park from Nagano, I would highly recommend this (in June there are babies everywhere!). Tyler was communicative from the start of our planning. He and Mari are helpful, welcoming, and fun. We had dinners and breakfasts at the ryokan—- you MUST do this. The food is spectacular and a work of art. Fresh and traditional and they will accommodate your needs. On arrival, Tyler gave a great introduction (in English, he is American) to the use of the baths, traditions, and the history of the ryokan. This inn was owned by Mari’s parents and is historic, not housed in a concrete building as some are. The rooms are large and spotlessly clean with private baths. There is a large central garden and the entire ryokan is built around smaller gardens. We did a walking tour of the town with Tyler and interacted with local shop owners, heard local lore, learned the places to eat, drink and even target shoot. I wish we had stayed longer. We traveled from Togura to go south on the Nakasendo Trail. It was a bit of a travel morning but Tyler arranged our bags to be sent ahead to Magome and helped with our train planning. We arrived that evening in Magome flawlessly.

This was a great ryokan with reasonable prices both for a stans alone room and with dinner and breakfast included. The inn had a nice onsen as well, ans Tyler was a great source of recommendations in the area. I'll have to come back to the region to try the specialty spicy udon which I missed.

Our group from the US/Japan have been coming to stay at Kamesei since 2017. We stay here every summer for our nonprofit organization work. We usually stay 3-5 nights during August. Tyler and his wife, Mari-san, are wonderful hosts. They are warm, welcoming, and generous. Our stay is always comfortable and affordable. They have accommodated our group from 3-8 guests. We enjoy the onsen and the ambience there. Our children have also enjoyed their game room, which has space for reading books, playing with trains and other toys and even a ping pong table! Tyler also provides homemade oatmeal cookies upon arrival, which is a guest favorite! Tyler has a plethora of resources to help guide guest to have the most enjoyable time in Nagano. He has great suggestions for places to eat, places to visit/sightsee, attractions to enjoy, etc. He also has popcorn nights for children to enjoy! Next door to the ryokan, Tyler owns a bike rental company. We have rented bikes from him and it's a great way to explore the city. He has bikes for families with young children too. It's great for the whole family! We always look forward to staying at Kamesei Ryokan. It definitely provides a different pace than the Tokyo life. It's a very comfortable, relaxing, and peaceful place to stay. We highly recommend staying here when visiting Nagano!

We, a family of 4, had a great stay at this charming and authentic rykon with helpful service by the two dedicated owners. The rykon is charming, the onsen is nice (I recommend booking your private onsen) and the food at both kaiseki and breakfast were tasty experiences. Highly recommended.

Really friendly ryokan, with good onsen baths. Owners went above and beyond to make our visit fun. Delicious and plentiful food for both dinner & breakfast. Great value for money. Baths showing some signs of wear and tear due to the sulphurous onsen fumes, so hopefully will get some TLC in near future. Rooms and other areas are lovely.

We had a wonderful stay at Kamesei. Between the warm welcome, beautiful and rejuvenating onsen, and the delicious dinner, it was more than we'd expected. The gardens were lovely and added a serene touch as well. We opted for the bike rentals along the river and the bikes were tuned up and great for a smooth coast along the river flats. Definitely recommend for a few hours. Tyler-san recommended the mochi at Takemizuwake Shrine on the return journey and they were almost as lovely as the proprietress there. If you are travelling with kids, there is a games room that was great for our 4-year-old, and she was given some special slippers, which pretty much made her day. She was also catered for at dinner with some kidfrendly fare, which was a lovely and unexpected touch. If you're not travelling with kids, the games room is tucked in a corner away from things, so wouldn't cause unexpected noise. This was by far the most relaxing portion of our month-long journey.
